Cultural Diversity

Participants will gain awareness of the effects of cultural, racial and ethnic similarities and differences that may impact their work as prevention and treatment professionals. The course will address: methods for creating a safe environment for communication regarding culturally sensitive issues in the workplace; the definition and differentiation between the terms “culture”, “race” and “ethnicity”; the definitions of bias, prejudice and discrimination and other key terms related to the area of diversity.

Instructor Information

Name: Dean Hale
Credentials: CASAC
Bio: Dean is a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor, Recovery Coach, and is currently the Director of Residential Services for Twin County Recovery Services. He has worked in several different modalities of treatment including a hospital-based detox and rehab unit, halfway houses, and an intensive residential program. Dean worked as an Intervention Coordinator and has facilitated Interventions as well. He has worked with both mandated and non-mandated populations and is a member of the Columbia County Drug Court Team. In his free time he produces a Public Access Television Series called INSIDE ADDICTION, speaks within the community to Middle and High School students about his recovery from addiction, and stays active by volunteering and doing service work in sober support fellowships.
