Cultural Competence

This course will teach students about the ability to honor and respect the beliefs, languages, interpersonal styles, and behaviors of individuals and families receiving services, as well as staff members who are providing such services. Cultural competence is a dynamic, ongoing developmental process that requires a long-term commitment and is achieved over time.

Instructor Information

Name: Dean Hale
Credentials: CASAC
Bio: Dean is a Credentialed Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor, Recovery Coach, and is currently the Director of Residential Services for Twin County Recovery Services. He has worked in several different modalities of treatment including a hospital-based detox and rehab unit, halfway houses, and an intensive residential program. Dean worked as an Intervention Coordinator and has facilitated Interventions as well. He has worked with both mandated and non-mandated populations and is a member of the Columbia County Drug Court Team. In his free time he produces a Public Access Television Series called INSIDE ADDICTION, speaks within the community to Middle and High School students about his recovery from addiction, and stays active by volunteering and doing service work in sober support fellowships.
