Vicarious Traumatization and Therapist Resilience

Vicarious traumatization describes the experiences of mental health providers who become overly empathic after listening to accounts of abuse or violence by trauma survivors. Symptoms of vicarious traumatization are similar to those experienced by individuals with PTSD, and include psychic numbing, hypervigilance, difficulty sleeping, and intrusive thoughts of the trauma, which were reported by the client. This training will teach therapists how to identify, intervene and prevent vicarious traumatization.  It also addresses workforce / workplace issues regarding vicarious traumatization.
