Eating Disorders and Substance Abuse

This training will address the comorbidity of eating disorders and substance abuse. Studies have demonstrated that 25%-50% of individuals with anorexia nervosa and bulimia will have a history of substance abuse, and that certain groups of drug abusers may have elevated rates of eating disorders. This training reviews the research to date on the co-occurrence of eating disorders and substance abuse. An overview of eating disorders assessment techniques in substance abuse treatment and possible treatment modalities will be presented.
