Participants will gain awareness of the effects of cultural, racial and ethnic similarities and differences that may impact their work as prevention and treatment professionals. The course will address: methods for creating a safe environment for communication regarding culturally sensitive issues in the workplace; the definition and differentiation between the terms “culture”, “race” and “ethnicity”; the definitions of bias, prejudice and discrimination and other key terms related to the area of diversity.

Bio: Mr. Michaels has been employed with the Addictions Care Center of Albany for over 10 years and currently holds the position of Prevention Manager in the Community Education Program. He is responsible for managing ACCA’s Prevention Education programming in area schools, and he is also a Prevention Educator. Mr. Michaels is well versed in topics such as prevention methods, prevention needs assessment, media literacy, inhalant abuse prevention, and prevention community organization.
